For grown ups
The short version
- We hold a parent's email address, your child's first name, and their progress on this site.
- No adverts, no tracking, and nothing is sold or shared for marketing.
- Children have no login of their own and cannot post or send messages.
- You can ask to see it or have it deleted at any time.
Who we are
Simon's Write Club is run by Martins-Allen Education Limited (company number 09759595), which is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office. It is the home support that comes with your child's Write Club course. For anything on this page, contact Simon Allen at simonnickallen@gmail.com.
What we hold
- Your email address, so you can log in and receive your login link.
- Your password, which you choose. Google stores it in scrambled form. We cannot see it.
- Your child's first name and Write Club group, so the site knows whose progress to show.
- Your child's progress: games played and credits won, episodes and stories opened, and their Writing Factory, including the name they give it and the little figure they design. Credits earned in Write Club sessions show here too.
- A simple record of use: when the site was last opened and which parts were visited. Simon uses it to see what is helping.
We do not hold surnames, addresses, dates of birth or photographs on this site, and we do not collect payment details here.
Why we hold it
Only to run this site for your child and to see how the home support is being used, so it can be improved. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in supporting your child's learning as part of the course you booked. We never use it for advertising and never sell it or pass it on for marketing.
Who can see it
- You, when you log in, see your own child or children.
- Simon, as the teacher, sees every child's progress.
- Other families see only the Top book sellers chart, which lists factory names and copies sold. It never shows a child's name.
Where it is kept
The site runs on Google Firebase, part of Google Cloud, which stores the information for us and acts only on our instructions. Login emails are sent through Google's Gmail. Some pages load their lettering from Google Fonts, and as with any website, Google's servers see your device's internet address when a page loads. Google may store or process information outside the UK, under the safeguards that UK data protection law requires.
Your device remembers that you are logged in and which child was chosen, so you are not asked each time. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.
How long we keep it
For as long as your child is at Write Club. Within one month of your child leaving, their login and their progress on this site are deleted. You can ask for this sooner at any time.
Your rights
You can ask to see what we hold about you and your child, to have it corrected or deleted, or to object to how it is used. Email Simon and it will be dealt with within one month. Using the site is optional, and removing your child from it does not affect their place at Write Club.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
For young writers
This site remembers your first name, the games you have played, the stories you have read and the factory you are building, so they are still there next time. Your grown up and Simon can see how you are getting on. Other children can see your factory's name on the chart, but never your name. If you ever want something removed, ask your grown up or Simon.
